There are several reports spreading around that United States Major League Soccer side Atlanta United tried to sign Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic this summer. The reports claimed that Matic has grown out of favor at Old Trafford and that the Red Devils were trying very hard to offload him this summer so they can create space to sign new players as a result. Certainly, with the squad that United manager Olé Gunnar Solksjaer has at his disposal, it would be surprising to see him start Matic in games that are deemed very important because he has more options in that position, with Scott McTominay and Fred capable of playing in that same position.

McTominay and Fred have proven to be more vibrant and more energetic options in the defensive midfield role and there have been calls by the Red Devils fans that Solksjaer should stop using Matic and should, in fact, sell him so the club would sign another defensive midfielder. There were several reports linking United to the signing of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Brighton and Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma, making it seem believable that they would be selling Matic this summer.

However, none of those deals came alive and Matic remained at Old Trafford, with Bissouma and Ndidi also remaining at their respective clubs. There were reports that United received several offers for Matic this summer, with Atlanta and New York Red Bulls two of the clubs that were said to have shown interest in sig ING the player but nothing serious materialized from those rumors.

United fans will, however, hope that United can sign a new defensive midfielder in January so that they would have a better option to call ok rather than Matic.
