Seattle Sounders Reach Play-Offs despite DC United Loss

Seattle Sounders were able to get a play-off spot despite failing to overcome DC United in the recent match. Even though Seattle have been able to reach the play-offs in 11 consecutive seasons, the team has been able to pick up the MLS Cup only once – in 2016. After having failed to beat FC Dallas in the previous game, Seattle Sounders witnessed a disappointing performance from the players in the away game against DC United. Lucas Rodriguez scored after just 15 minutes into the game while Frederic Brilliant doubled the advantage of early into the second-half.

Even with two games left in the regular season, Seattle have been able to seal a place in the play-offs. The last two games will be all about trying to finish in the second place and as high as possible. Minnesota United are one of the key rivals for the second place and the two teams face each other off in the final regular-season game. Manager Brian Schmetzer claimed that he would have wished for his players to reach the play-offs by winning games rather than rely on other teams dropping points.

LAFC remain in a far superior position with a huge advantage over the rest of the teams in the Western Conference. They will receive the bye from the first round along with home advantage.“We’d prefer, those players would prefer to get in by winning games. I reminded them that our objective of this franchise is to get to second (place),” saidSchmetzer. The fight for the second and third places is crucial since these two teams will receive a home game in the conference semifinals. The new format of play-offs come into play this season. The second half of the campaign begins on October 19 while the title game is on November 10.
