NELSEN CHASES DEFOE

The manager of Toronto FC, Ryan Nelsen, has said that it would be great if he manages to secure the services of Jermain Defoe in future.

Nelsen had played alongside Defoe when he was a part of Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and his relationship with the veteran English striker is believed to be pretty good.

The 2013 season was Nelsen’s first season as the manager of Toronto FC. He couldn’t guide his team to too many victories, but, it looks like the owners of Toronto FC are ready to give him another go and he deserves that too. You can’t judge the skills of a manager on the basis of just one season.

Toronto FC finished the 2013 MLS season at the second last position in the Eastern Conference points table. They managed to win just 6 out of the 34 matches that they played in the league.

Nelsen was talking to the reporters a few days back about the performance of his team in the 2013 season and about his plans for the next season. When he was asked whether he would like to land Jermain Defoe at BMO Field in future, he said, “Yes, I would definitely like to do that. Jermain is one of the greatest strikers that I have played with. He trains hard and goes for the goal all the time. Any manager would like to have a fantastic bloke like him in the side.”

“If he comes to MLS, it would be great for the spectators over here. He is a world class player and if he is put on sale, the teams from all around the world would want to buy him.”

Defoe has been playing for Tottenham since a long time. He has already made 270 league appearances for the Spurs.
