CAN ATLANTA MAKE THE PLAYOFFS

Atlanta United were on course to make the play-offs at the end of the MLS regular season until the recent run of results. A run of two defeats from the last three games in the MLS has led Atlanta United to eighth spot on the Eastern Conference and out of the play-off slots.

After the current international break, Atlanta United will restart their 2021 MLS campaign against Toronto FC on Saturday with the aim to get back on track in the bid for a play-off spot after the recent poor run of results. The Toronto FC clash is the start of a six-game run for Atlanta United until the regular season starts and it is now or never for the former MLS Cup winners.

The good news for Atlanta United and their fans is that the point difference between them and Orlando City in fourth place is just three points. Therefore, Atlanta United can finish as high as possible with a good run of form in the final six games.

Fourth position guarantees Atlanta United the hosting of the first round as far as the play-offs are concerned and it is within reach. However, the immediate target for the team is to finish in the top seven spots to make the play-offs.

The last six matches of the 2021 MLS regular season are like finals for Atlanta United starting from the away game against Toronto FC later this week. After the Toronto FC matchup, Atlanta United will face New York City FC at home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

The New York City clash is the start of three successive home games for Atlanta United. They take on Inter Miami at home after the New York City game before facing Toronto FC at home. The regular season ends with away games against New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati.
